My ugly curry puff

So, back in Singapore when I was properly salaried, one of my happy indulgences was an Old Chang Kee curry puff. To me, it’s the best stuff. Yes. I love OCK. I miss it so much I can’t tell you. Needless to say, it was one of my main cravings and I had my mother promise me to bring me a few when she visited at the end of the month then.

Mama G’s baked pasta

My baked pasta. Created out of need one morning when Chris’ mum asked me if I could prepare lunch as she couldn’t get back in time. It was 11ish in the morning and I needed to be done cooking by 10 to noon to pick Tasha from school. And lunch time was quite precise because Tasha lunches at home every school day. Luckily his mum stocks up on food so it wasn’t too hard to figure out what could be done.

Crab bisque

A foodie friend of mine wrote to me recently to ask if I’ve any recipe ideas for crabs. He just got a box of them. Not that I have any business to be cooking crabs or any sort of crustaceans for that matter… Seafood in this part of France at least, is a bit dodgy. They never look as fresh as those found in Asia and because I’m most particular about about not putting anything with the smell of dead organism into my mouth, I will not be buying or preparing seafood anytime soon. And I’m not paying more than 50 euros for the crab to be alive. I don’t miss it thaaaat much.

Hello 2010

Moved to Strasbourg, set up an apartment, sent Tasha to the European school and had a baby. That was 2009. It was a great year for us though I wish I had taken time out to appreciate it a little more. It also occurred to me that it’s finally 2010, when cars are supposed to be flying, a droid living in every home and neon coloured hair legalised.

33 in Strasbourg

Today I turn 33.

Inès’ birth story

Here is the email I sent to my family in Singapore in the evening of the day that Inès was born. Not the least bit tired and all alone in the hospital room…

Water under the bridge, flow of tears ?

In the most unexpected places
you chance upon a face.
And it makes you wonder
if water flushes all away.

2 months since with 2 more weeks to go

2 months ago, we decided to buy a car. A cute little red VW golf. We had to since Tasha was going to start school in Strasbourg and we needed some way to send her to school. Well, today - Tasha is in school AT strasbourg and we still don’t have a car. Hell, I don’t even have a bicycle. But we did better and moved to Strasbourg instead.

Look what came in the mail today

A few months ago, quite by chance I started to chat with Yvette over MSN about sewing. It was then that I discovered she was quite the skilled crafts-women. What with her professional sewing machine and her passion for quilting, I asked her to sew me something for the new baby.

Awesome sri lankan tea in France

Quite by chance, I found these organically grown fair trade tea in Auchan. Turned out to be the best tea I’ve ever tasted.
